Aaron on Scouting (and before that, Bryan on Scouting) was never about a singular person. It was always meant to be the voice of the dedicated professionals in the Scouting America National Council’s magazine division, sharing the word on all good things related to Scouting and Scouting-adjacent activities.
And as the world changes, so does this website.
Coming soon — the latest iteration, called simply On Scouting.
What’s changing?
Other than a new design and logo … not much!
Officially launching May 4, On Scouting will still be your go-to source of information for all things Scouting, from merit badge announcements to Safeguarding Youth updates to new digital resources for units. But we’ll also be expanding our coverage to include more outdoor tips, health-and-wellness issues and fun family ideas.
A redesigned layout will make articles easier to find — including ones showcasing Scouts doing great things. Those types of stories will remain an essential part of the site, as will more interactive content, including videos and reader polls. I’ve gotten a sneak peek, and trust me, it’s gonna be great!
In short, if you’re living the Scout Life, On Scouting is for you.
A fond farewell
It was an honor to be the primary contributor for a few years. Although everything I’ve written was fun and rewarding in its own way, I have a soft spot in my heart for Scouts and Scouting alumni who have overcome obstacles, as you can read about here, here and here. And I spent way too much time (don’t tell my boss!) researching this story about the connections between Jaws and Scouting.
I’ve always been fascinated by Scouting-related minutiae, as you might be able to deduce if you read this story about a 2,000-year-old tree with a fascinating Scout connection. Perhaps most of all, it was an honor to write twice about Jimmy Carter, a Silver Buffalo recipient who once took a hike with his grandchild’s Scout troop.
Now, I’ll turn this site over to the more-than-qualified staff of our editorial team. Sign up for the newsletter to stay informed, and don’t forget to bookmark the homepage and visit often. I know I will!
