For decades, Scouts have earned merit badges by learning and progressing through traditional merit badge pamphlets. These pamphlets guide Scouts by providing requirements, history and key information to help them achieve their goals.
While these pamphlets remain a cornerstone of the merit badge experience, Scouting America has developed innovative tools to complement these traditional resources. One of the most impactful of these tools is the new digital resource guides. Several guides have been released this year, including one for the Eagle-required Citizenship in the World merit badge.
The Citizenship in the World merit badge encourages Scouts to develop empathy, leadership and ethical decision-making by helping them understand global responsibilities and their role in an interconnected world. By completing this badge, Scouts gain a deeper appreciation for the values, traditions and concerns of cultures around the globe.
Through the digital resource guides, Scouts benefit from a more accessible, interactive and engaging experience as they work toward completing badge requirements. Here are some examples of how these guides expand upon the original pamphlets:
- Streamlined, easy-to-use digital interface
- Interactive videos aligned with badge requirements
- An extended learning section featuring careers connected to the badge
- Additional articles and downloadable activity templates
- Hands-on learning activities available for Scouts and counselors
Additionally, Scout leaders gain practical tools and ideas to help organize meetings and tailor instruction to Scouts with varying levels of knowledge and experience.
You can see the Citizenship in the World digital resource guide on its dedicated page on the Scouting America website.
