Recruitment-ReadyKnow what beats an updated BeAScout pin? Not much.

On August 3, BeAScout added new fields for unit meeting time and location, and we wrote here about the importance of updating your unit’s BeAScout pin so families searching for a Scouting home could find one. A lot of amazing Scouting volunteers have done just that — more than 70% of those BeAScout pins are current. But there’s clearly more work to do.

In this post, we’ll focus on making sure your unit’s information is as clear as possible.

For many families, the pin listing on the BeAScout.org site is the first introduction to Scouting in their community. The information they find helps shape their expectations and influences whether they decide to take the next step.

Looking at your pin listing now, how would you answer the following questions?

  • Would a family know exactly how to connect with your unit and who to talk to if they have questions?
  • Are you clear about where your unit meets? What day and time?
  • Does your listing show that your unit is active and ready to welcome new Scouts?
  • Are you making it easy for families to take the next step and join?

Details like these help remove uncertainty for parents who are deciding how to invest their family’s time. An accurate and complete BeAScout pin sends an important message: This unit is organized, active and ready to welcome new families. Said another way: This unit is trustworthy, helpful and friendly!

That matters because every unit has something valuable to offer. Behind every pin is a group of dedicated volunteers creating opportunities for young people to develop character, build leadership skills, explore the outdoors, serve others and make lasting friendships.

As we continue into fall, now is a great time to view your BeAScout pin through the eyes of a parent visiting it for the first time.

Review your BeAScout Unit Pin page at my.scouting.org, and make sure families can clearly see their path to Scouting.

A few minutes today can create a lifetime of impact later.
