The NFL season is nearing the halfway point, and Eagle Scouts are making valuable contributions to their teams. Here’s a quick update:
Devaughn Vele, Wide Receiver, New Orleans Saints
Through seven games, Vele has become one of the Saints’ most productive receivers. His 33 catches and 348 yards is second only to All-Pro teammate Chris Olave. Vele is on pace to easily pass his career high of 475 receiving yards in 2024 when he played for Denver. The Saints, however, are winless at home and sit in last place in the NFC South.
Garett Bolles, Offensive Tackle, Denver Broncos
Bolles has been one of the NFL’s best pass-protecting tackles this season. Through the first two weeks, he allowed no pressures in 69 pass-blocking snaps. His season-to-date Pro Football Focus grade is 80.8, ranking him fifth among 71 qualifying tackles. Denver is riding a three-game win streak and trails first-place Kansas City by a half game in the AFC West.
Bobby Okereke, Linebacker, Carolina Panthers
Okereke has one sack, five passes defended, an interception, a forced fumble and a team-leading 44 tackles through six games. In a recent loss against Tampa Bay, Okereke had a season-high 10 tackles. Carolina is in first place in the NFC South with a 3-3 record, one-half game ahead of Atlanta.
Worth Mentioning
- Tommy Townsend, Punter, Tennessee Titans — Townsend ranks ninth in the NFL with a 49.2 yards-per-punt average. He kicked a 65-yarder in Week 2 against Philadelphia.
- David Montgomery, Running Back, Houston Texans — Montgomery opened the season with two rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown in a 36-31 loss against Buffalo. He’s been out with an injury since Week 5.
- Ryan Rehkow, Punter, Cincinnati Bengals — Rehkow has averaged 45.1 yards per punt, and 13 of his 20 punts have landed inside the 20-yard line.
Eagle list updated
On Scouting readers pointed out a couple of NFL Eagle Scouts we missed in our original list published before the season, including a Dallas Cowboys lineman who plays only a few miles from the Scouting America national service center.
Here’s the updated list, including Eagle Scouts on practice squads and on injured reserve. Did we miss anybody else? Let us know in the comments, or email us at onscouting@scouting.org.
