Join Philmont Scout Ranch for an all-day Facebook live stream on October 1 to celebrate the opening of Philmont Summer 2028. Tune in at 9 a.m. CDT, register your crew at 10 a.m. and stay connected throughout the day. Philmont staff and Scouting America leaders will tell stories and update Scouters on the latest Philmont news.
Crews that register for a Philmont experience on October 1 will be eligible for prizes throughout the day. Mark your calendars and join the fun. If you can’t stay all day, pick your favorite segment.
9:30 a.m. | Registration Kickoff: “Your Philmont Journey Begins Today.” Get an overview of the registration process and everything you need to know to begin planning your 2028 adventure.
11:30 a.m. | Council Leadership: “Building Stronger Units and Councils.” Council leaders and key volunteers will learn how Philmont can support council goals through council contingents, priority date selection, OA tracks and more. One adult advisor will win a free Philmont Advisors Skill School (PASS) course. That’s a $145 value.
Experience a true Northwoods winter at Okpik, where Scouts learn to thrive in subzero temperatures, travel across frozen wilderness lakes and construct their own sleeping structures out of snow. Registration for Okpik opens October 1. Trips are fully outfitted and provisioned, including most of the personal gear necessary to stay warm in the winter. A highly trained staff member, called an Interpreter, accompanies all crews on their treks.
1:30 p.m. | Unit Leaders: “Leading the Adventure.” Unit leaders will learn about financial incentives, scholarships and resources such as the Stay and Play program and Trek Toolbox that can make planning and leading a Philmont trek easier. One crew will win custom crew shirts valued at $500.
3:30 p.m. | Parents: “Youth Through Challenge.” Parents will learn how Philmont’s extensive safety resources, including its seasonal staff and infirmary, help provide a safe and supported high-adventure experience for their Scouts. One crew will receive an Adventure Ready Brands Mountain Explorer First Aid Kit.
5:30 p.m. | Youth: “Finding Your Crew.” Scouts will discover how Philmont lets them put their Scouting skills to use, learn new skills and take ownership of their adventure through the patrol method and youth-led crews. One youth participant will win an Osprey Aether Plus 70 Backpack — a $450 value.
7:30 p.m. | “The Trail Lies Ahead Grand Drawing.” This session recaps the day and reveals the number of Day 1 reservations. All crews that register on October 1 will be entered to win up to four free advisors for their 2028 Philmont Trek.
